Yes, it's strange, all right, but that's Robert Rodriguez for you. (It seems even stranger in comparison to its nominal prequel, Desperado.)
By the way, if you'd like to see an excellent but quite offbeat performance by Antonio Banderas, be sure to get his little movie opposite Rebecca Romjin, Femme Fatale.
